the high guide cannabigerol (CBG) and it's benefits for your skin

By now, most people are familiar with the cannabinoids found in the Cannabis Sativa (hemp) plant. The two most widely known are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). High uses the nutrient-dense seed oil from the Cannabis Sativa (hemp) plant and does not include CBD or the psychoactive compound THC in our formulations. With the launch of our long-awaited blemish clearing line, high & byewe are highlighting an exciting new ingredient for your skin – CBG, also known as cannabigerol!

Now for a bit of “science talk”.

Right now, there are around 150 identified cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. These cannabinoids are broken into categories of ‘Minor’ or ‘Major’. As you may have guessed, major cannabinoids are more common and are found in higher percentages in the cannabis (hemp) plant. These cannabinoids, like THC and CBD are widely known and have been studied for some time. Conversely, minor cannabinoids are relatively new in terms of being studied, and are present in hemp plants in lower levels, usually less than 1%. Cannabigerol (CBG) is considered a minor cannabinoid. Because it is the precursor from which all other cannabinoids are synthesized, CBG is often referred to as the “mother” or “stem cell” of cannabinoids. In other words, CBG is needed to form the other cannabinoids in the plant.

Cannabigerol (CBG) has three major benefits to your skin - CBG is highly anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant. Our bodies naturally contain the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which essentially works to keep everything in balance. Relating to your skin, the endocannabinoid system helps maintain healthy skin function. CBG works with the CB1 and CB2 endocannabinoid receptors, which are located in the skin. Once CBG enters the epidermis (skin), it penetrates to the basal and subcutaneous layers where it helps calm inflammation, reduces blemishes, purifies pores, balances sebum (oil) production and assists with cellular turnover.
