fall skin tips from high beauty's esthetician
Whether or not we like to admit it, the end of summer always stings just a little. Personally, I enjoy Fall with cozy sweaters, the leaves turning beautiful colors, and all things pumpkin! Fall brings a sense of quiet and rest which is perfect for self-care. It also signals a time to make some adjustments to your skincare routines.
With the change in seasons and temperatures, we all should start to make skincare a higher priority in our daily lives. Cooler temperatures will mean less humidity. And that means you may experience more dryness in your skin, hair and nails - even for those who normally have an oilier or acne prone skin type. Dry skin can lead to redness, irritation, inflammation and sensitivity, which is why it’s important to keep your skin highly hydrated!
Below are a few esthetician-approved updates to your fall skincare routine, that will help you keep your healthy, beautiful skin all season long.
Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!
If you’ve read any of our other blogs, you should already be in the habit of moisturizing your skin morning and night. But it is even more important as the temperatures drop. ALWAYS follow your morning cleanse with a high-powered daily moisturizer like high five CANNABIS FACIAL MOISTURIZER. This nutrient-packed daily moisturizer will deliver Vitamins A, B, C, D and E, along with powerful antioxidants like CoQ10, and the anti-inflammatory properties of Cannabis sativa (hemp) seed oil and bioflavonoids to your skin. High five is a nutrient rich daily facial moisturizer that will boosts your skin’s hydration levels without feeling heavy or greasy.
Make Sure to Exfoliate
A certain cereal commercial may have taught you that flakes are ‘G-r-r-reat!’ growing up, but I’m telling you now that they do not have a place on your face. Even if your skin may be producing less oil during Fall, this is no time to give up on exfoliation. Not only will dry, dead skin cells prevent your skincare ingredients from absorbing, you may notice your complexion looking duller.
Once or twice per week after cleansing your skin, use an exfoliating product that combines both physical and chemical exfoliants to remove those dry flakes! Bonus points if it contains hydrating and nourishing ingredients too. I love pairing our high priority CANNABIS CLEANSING FOAM and our high maintenance CANNABIS PEELING MASK for optimal results. High priority removes makeup and impurities, while keeping your skin’s protective barrier intact. It delivers hydration and nutrients to skin thanks to an organic aloe juice base, along with ingredients Cannabis sativa seed (hemp) oil, pomegranate and broccoli seed oils. Our high maintenance CANNABIS PEELING MASK contains three types of exfoliants - bamboo extract (physical exfoliator), fruit and lactic acids (chemical exfoliator), and pineapple and apple enzymes (enzymatic exfoliator). It also includes hydrating aloe juice and sodium hyaluronate and nourishing Cannabis sativa seed oil. All of these amazing natural ingredients combine to whisk away dry, dead surface skin cells and reveal radiant skin! Embrace Your Oil!
If you are new to facial oils, now is not the time to shy away! Just as you should moisturize during your morning skincare routine, you should be including a high-quality facial oil into your nighttime skincare routine. High expectations CANNABIS FACIAL OIL should actually be considered a nighttime treatment oil for intensive repair and replenishment. This serum – like facial oil contains the highest level of Cannabis sativa seed oil at 32% of the formula along with bioflavonoids and terpenes. Not only does this add to the reparative and inflammation-fighting benefits, it ensures instant absorption into your skin. Each evening after cleansing, warm 2-3 drops of high expectations CANNABIS FACIAL OIL between your hands and apply to your face, neck and décolleté. Should you experience drier-than-usual skin during the Fall and Winter months, try layering high five CANNABIS FACIAL MOISTURIZER on top of high expectations CANNABIS FACIAL OIL for an added boost of hydration.
Are You Forgetting Something?
Just because the weather is colder, and we may be experiencing overcast or cloudy days, DO NOT FORGET YOUR SPF!! UVA rays and UVB rays are pesky because they are there whether you see the sun or not. Some people, including me, have experienced the worst sunburns on an overcast day. Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (one that offers protection from UVA and UVB rays), every, single day. Don’t forget your neck, décolleté, hands and any other part of you that is exposed to the sun. Apply your SPF after any skincare products during the day, and before any makeup you may or may not be wearing.
Double Duty
Your skin on your face isn’t the only thing that a change in seasons will affect. Your hair and nails will often be affected too! Did you know you can use High Beauty products on these areas too? Here are some of my favorite pro tips:
- Rub a drop or two of high expectations CANNABIS FACIAL OIL on to your nails and cuticles to keep hang nails at bay and your nails hydrated and flexible.
- Apply a bit of the oil to control flyaway, static effected hair.
- High expectations is a great beard oil! Just apply to hands and run through beard for control and added softness.
- Apply a bit of high five CANNABIS FACIAL MOISTURIZER to your hands. Between cold weather and the extra hand washing we are doing these days, your hands will love the hydration and antioxidant protection.
- Dry elbows and heels? Give them a good scrubbing with high maintenance CANNABIS PEELING MASK. The power of three exfoliators will have your feet and elbows back in shape in no time!
Finally, with Fall comes thoughts of Thanksgiving. Even though we have experienced a year like none other, don’t forget to remind yourself of a few things to be grateful for. Personally, I am so grateful for you – our high community. You are all amazing!!
