Tiktok Skincare Trends

Tiktok Skincare Trends

I’m sure we have all seen and heard of various TikTok trends. But let’s talk about the skincare trends on TikTok. What they are, if they work, and if they’re harmful to your skin. From an esthetician’s point of view, here are my thoughts on specific TikTok skincare trends.

Liquid chlorophyll is one of the latest trends taking over TikTok. According to Healthline, the idea behind this trend is that drinking water to which liquid chlorophyll has been added encompasses a rapid and reliable delivery system for the naturally occurring pigment that gives green plants their rich green hue. Chlorophyll is incredibly rich in vitamins A, C, E, and K, all of which play an equally important part in your skin appearing radiant, revitalized, and youthful. Chlorophyll can visibly reduce the appearance of dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles, often the result of sun damage. According to Healthline, chlorophyll has been shown to reduce inflammation and bacterial growth in skin wounds. Many claim there are more benefits to drinking it than just benefiting your skin. Some possible side-effects of drinking chlorophyll are digestive problems, or some people have reported green/yellow or black stool. Of course, before you decide to try any “TikTok skincare trend,” consult with your dermatologist/esthetician before trying anything. You don’t want to damage your skin!

Another TikTok trend that has been going around for a while is ice rolling. People use ice rollers to help soothe inflammation, reduce puffiness, and advance lymphatic drainage. According to Dr. Michele Green M.D, a New York-based dermatologist, she says “The cool temperature of these tools combined with the pressure applied during rolling causes blood vessels to dilate and increases circulation, ultimately reducing swelling and boosting skin radiance.” From personal use, I have loved using my ice roller. I use mine every morning and love how my skin feels after. Typically, when I wake up, my face is puffy and swollen, but my face is instantly depuffed after using my ice roller. I definitely recommend purchasing one and seeing how you like it!

The last Tiktok trend we will talk about today is using a gua sha tool. The gua sha massage is a typical Chinese medicine practice in which a tool is used to activate blood circulation and alleviate muscle soreness. The benefits of using one are that it stimulates circulation, helps produce collagen, decreases puffiness, sculpts face muscles, and releases tightness. I personally love using my gua sha; I use it every morning and have perfected my techniques. Using a facial oil while performing this massage will help your gua sha glide on your skin; we recommend using high expectations facial oil, formulated with hempseed oil, bioflavonoids, and pure essential plant oils; high® delivers the high-powered benefits of hemp to protect with potent antioxidants, balance with adaptogens, soothe, hydrate and replenish. It’s best to watch YouTube videos at first on how to properly use one until you feel comfortable with doing it on your own. It is not recommended to use one if you have rashes, sunburns, or blood coagulation issues; again, advise your dermatologist or esthetician before use!

There are always new skincare trends, and we hope you learned something from each one we talked about today! As always, if you have any skincare questions, please feel free to slide in our DM’s on Instagram!
